United Airlines will provide daily nonstop flights between Omaha's Eppley Airfield and San Antonio beginning March 3.
United also announced new flights through its United Express regional service between San Antonio and six other cities.
"These new routes from San Antonio will complement our existing service and offer our customers convenient access and more flying options to cities all over the world," said Sean Donohue, vice president of operational services for United Express and Ted, United's low-fare division.
Don Smithey, executive director of the Omaha Airport Authority, said the service will provide Eppley's first nonstop flights to San Antonio.
"We're certainly very pleased to see the carriers expand in the Omaha market," he said.
Trans States Airlines will provide the flights under the United Express commuter service. The Missouri-based company is the nation's sixthlargest independent regional airline and provides United Express service on 50-passenger regional jets.
Smithey said there is demand for more flights from Eppley.
"This is good news, and we would encourage United to look at Omaha for additional markets, for example, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.," he said.
The Los Angeles and Washington metropolitan areas were listed fourth and fifth among the top 25 markets on the most recent survey of origins and destinations for Omaha passengers. The San Francisco area was 16th.
San Antonio was not among the top 25 markets.
Nonstop flights to Los Angeles, Washington and San Francisco would provide more opportunities for Omaha passengers, Smithey said.
"Each of those airports has international connections as well as additional domestic connections."
