A 24-year-old Jacksonville woman died Sunday morning in a hit- and-run crash on Butler Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Kierra Lee Shore, of the 1300 block of Brookwood Forest Boulevard, was driving east about 11:15 a.m. after getting on the road at Hodges Boulevard when a speeding sport utility vehicle came up behind her in the inside lane, according to authorities.
The SUV's driver tried to change lanes but couldn't because of traffic, and tailgated Shore's vehicle, causing her to speed up, FHP said.
The SUV's driver then moved to the outside lane, trying to pass Shore as both drivers accelerated, authorities said.
The SUV overtook Shore's vehicle and cut in front of it before hitting the brakes for no reason, FHP said.
Shore steered to the right to try to avoid a collision, but lost control, hitting the guardrail and continuing off the road east of San Pablo Road, according to authorities.
She wasn't wearing a seat belt, FHP said.
FHP said the SUV, colored gold or champagne and possibly an Infiniti or Lexus, kept driving away.
In a separate crash later Sunday, one person died and another was in critical condition later in the evening after an accident about 4 p.m. on Interstate 95 south of the Baymeadows exit, Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Ron Tompkins said.
Authorities on Sunday night also were investigating a third serious crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian about 7:30 p.m. on Philips Highway between University Boulevard and Emerson Street. It also left someone in critical condition, Tompkins said.
