The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission’s staff has been presented an award for Outstanding Contribution to the Enhancement of Aviation in Oklahoma by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The External FAA award was presented at the 2005 FAA Airports Capital Improvement Planning and Environmental Conference in Fort Worth.

Victor Bird, director of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission, was presented a plaque recognizing the commission for performance in support of aviation in Oklahoma.

Ed Agnew, manager of the FAA’s Arkansas/Oklahoma Airport Division Office, said the commission accepted a challenge in July 2004 to become a more active player and integral partner in the airport capital development process.

The commission has distinguished itself by redirecting its professional resources into the capital development process and extending their facilitator role in the project formulation process, Agnew said. Under its expanded role, the commission now works directly with airport sponsors insofar as the identification of airport needs and construction projects and secures project formulation packages directly from the airport owner on an established schedule.
