NORFOLK, Va. - Virginian-Pilot Interactive Media, a division of The Virginian-Pilot newspaper, began a video-only Web site Thursday.
Called HamptonRoads.tv, the site includes video of local entertainment, news, sports, traffic, local life, music and movie previews. Users can choose videos by content category, with selections from HamptonRoads.tv videographers as well as those from The Virginian-Pilot and other sources.
"We believe this is the first local video portal in the nation, and possibly the world," Tina Gill, general manager of Interactive Media, said in a statement.
"The Internet and television industries have been abuzz this year with many announcements of online video services in the works, but most have focused on national network efforts," Gill said. "Hampton Roads is full of early adapters who embrace new technology. This region will lead the way for a new kind of consumer behavior viewing video over the Internet."
