TI Introduces Two DVI/HDMI Video Switches for Digital Televisions; Three-Port Device Replaces Multiple Switches to Save System Space and Cost
Posted on: Thursday, 1 December 2005, 12:00 CST
DALLAS, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments (TI) today introduced two new video switches for digital video interface (DVI) or high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI). The new offering includes the industry's only switch that enables designers to switch as many as three ports to a single display terminal to save board space and overall system cost. The two new switches are ideal for digital televisions (TV), audio/video receivers, and keyboard, video and mouse switches. (See http://www.ti.com/sc05242 .)
The TMDS341 is a three-port device that provides signal conditioning and switching, and supports four Transition Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS) channels, one hot plug detector and an I2C interface on each port. Each TMDS channel allows signaling rates up to 1.65 Gbps. The TMDS341 provides fixed, 8-dB input equalization and selectable, 3-dB output de-emphasis to optimize system performance through 5-m or longer DVI-compliant cables.
For shorter distances, designers may choose the TS3DV416, a 16-bit to 8-bit multiplexer/demultiplexer digital video switch with a single select input. The TS3DV416 provides excellent performance for single-card DVI/HDMI applications.
TMDS341 Additional Features * Isolated digital display control (DDC) bus for unused ports * 5-V tolerance to all DDC and HPD_SINK Inputs * Integrated receiver termination * Inter-Pair Output Skew < 200 ps * High Impedance Outputs When Disabled * Electrostatic discharge protection exceeds 3 kV (human body model) * 3.3-V supply operation TS3DV416 Key Features * Wide bandwidth: 900 MHz typical, up to 1.8 Gbps * Low crosstalk: -41 dB typical * Low bit-to-bit skew: 0.2 ns maximum * Low and flat ON-state resistance: low = 4 ohm typical, flat = 0.7 ohm typical * Low input/output capacitance: 10 pF typical * Rail-to-rail switching on data I/O ports (0 to 5 V) * Operating range from 3 V to 3.6 V Available Today
The TMDS341 is available today from TI and authorized distributor in an 80-pin thin quad flat package (TQFP) priced at $3.50 in 1,000-unit quantities. The TS3DV416 is available today in a 48-pin thin shrink small outline package (TSSOP) priced at $3.50 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
In addition to the TMDS341 and TS3DV416, TI offers a full portfolio of video interface devices including the PanelBus products for DVI applications. For more information, please see http://interface.ti.com/ .
