Russian Military Transport Aviation Airlifts 50,000 Servicemen in 2005

Moscow, 1 December: Military transport aviation pilots of the Russian air force have airlifted about 50,000 servicemen and their family members and over 15,000 tonnes of various cargoes this year, Col Aleksandr Drobyshevskiy, air force press service chief, said on Thursday [1 December].
"Pilots of our military transport aviation have successfully airdropped about 20,000 servicemen and 250 hardware pieces this year. The pilots' average flight time exceeds 60 hours," Drobyshevskiy told Interfax-Military News Agency.
Military transport aircraft have been involved in humanitarian cargo delivery to Indonesia and have taken part in over 80 various exercises, including those in China and India, he said.
"During the spring and autumn drafts, military transport planes airlifted 18,000 conscripts to their service sites," Drobyshevskiy noted.
According to him, about 200 young pilots have been taught this year to airlift personnel and airdrop them in the daytime and at night. Moreover, over 100 air specialists with knowledge of foreign languages have been prepared for flights on international routes.
