Nokia to expand production in China
HELSINKI, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) — Finland’s Nokia, a world mobile telephone giant, will expand its mobile phone production in Dongguan City, south China’s Guangdong Province, to meet growing demand, the company announced Thursday.
This expansion will provide more capacity and flexibility to meet the growing market demand worldwide, especially in China and Asia, Nokia said.
The new plants, which will be located adjacent to the existing ones, are going to be in operation in the third quarter of 2006, with approximately 1,900 employees when production is at full scale.
Dongguan is a strategic location for Nokia’s global supply network for mobile devices.
Nokia currently has nine mobile phone factories globally. It has six R&D units, four manufacturing sites and widespread operations in China. The number of Nokia employees in China is nearly 6,000.
