Cathay Pacific to Buy 12 Planes From Boeing BRIEFING: HONG KONG
Posted on: Friday, 2 December 2005, 12:00 CST
Cathay Pacific Airways announced on Thursday that it was buying 12 long-range 777s from Boeing and that it would augment its fleet with other leased Boeing and Airbus jets. Cathay Pacific, the largest airline in Hong Kong, will buy 12 Boeing 777-300ERs with options for 20 more, while leasing four of the same model. Three Airbus A330-300s will be leased from International Lease Finance, the airline said. The order helps Boeing widen its lead over Airbus in Asia. The planes will be added to Cathay Pacific's fleet of 95 planes to compete with China Southern Airlines.
The agreement with Cathay Pacific brings Boeing's announced orders and commitments from Asian carriers this year to 318, compared with 237 for Airbus.
