Tokyo, Dec. 2 (Jiji Press)--Japanese AM radio station Nippon Cultural Broadcasting Inc. said Friday it will start broadcast services through mobile phones on Tuesday in a tie-up with Frontmedia Inc., a venture firm that provides content for mobile phones.
Nippon Cultural Broadcasting will initially offer four five- minute music programs.
The programs will be aired as its regular radio broadcast service every Tuesday night. At the same time, they will be provided to mobile phone users by Tokyo-based Frontmedia through a website of leading Japanese mobile phone carrier NTT DoCoMo Inc. .
While the broadcast services are free of charge, listeners can download the programs on their phone handsets for fees.
Nippon Cultural Broadcasting gained consent to the download services from record labels that hold copyrights of tunes available for the services by allowing listeners to access the downloaded music only for three days, it said.
The radio broadcaster also plans to attach ads to the cellphone- based programs to secure a new revenue source.END
