ATX Delivers Business-Class VOIP Service; Continues Development of a World-Class IP Network and Solution Set

ATX Communications, a leading provider of communications technologies, is helping small and mid-size businesses (SMBs) take advantage of Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) services in an extensive IP Telephony launch that will continue over the next several months. ATX's initial VoIP offering, ATX CoreFlex(SM), represents the latest advance in the Company's steady drive to bring the benefits of emerging IP-based services to the business community.
"We've completed extensive testing and customer field trail phases of our VoIP deployment with great results," said Guy Fardone, ATX's Executive Vice President and General Manager. "Our customers are enjoying smooth transitions, and they're experiencing the added features and enhanced functionality that compelled them to migrate toward this technology. At the same time, our product team, engineers, and operations professionals, myself included, have been very pleased with all key indicators surrounding service delivery and QoS."
ATX began its preparation for feature-rich VoIP services and applications two years ago, eventually implementing Lucent (formerly Telica) softswitch technology throughout its network in the second half of 2004. Earlier this year, the Company began signing customers for its secure virtual private network (VPN) product. Through an MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching)-enabled IP network, ATX is already helping businesses with multiple locations and/or remote users leverage the expanded feature capabilities of voice and data convergence to mesh various service types, as well as achieve efficient, secure, fault resistant data connectivity with simple, centralized network administration.
Offering similar benefits to more business, ATX CoreFlex is an IP-based business trunk that maximizes the flexibility and throughput of a customer's access circuit, allowing users to realize nearly twice the normal bandwidth of a T1. Converging voice, data, and other services, CoreFlex's dynamic bandwidth allocation recognizes instantaneous bandwidth demands by traffic type and enables real-time adjustment. The result is substantially greater throughput compared to a traditional service, delivered for less cost.
ATX's new VoIP offering, along with its success with deploying MPLS-enabled IP networks, are evidence of its development into a mature technology player. The Company's focus on advanced network applications and managed services, including its ATX FrontLine(SM) suite of managed security services, has accelerated ATX's evolution into a well-rounded resource for small and mid-size businesses - an established provider delivering technology and expertise that solve three fundamental business needs: Infrastructure, Security, and Productivity.
Starting in early-2006, ATX will extend its VoIP product line, first introducing a broad range of productivity and cost-saving IP-enabled applications, then launching an advanced suite of hosted IP Telephony services including turnkey desktop voice and data services.
"For 20 years, businesses have relied on ATX to educate them on advancing technologies and help them take advantage when the time is right," said Fardone. "Notwithstanding the hype about VoIP, we believe the technology is more than ready for critical business applications. The value proposition is solid, and our customers are once again turning to us to help them ease into a new way of doing things. The time is definitely right."
