Dell Grabs Top Share of Japan PC Server Market

Tokyo, Dec. 7 (Jiji Press)--Dell Inc. grabbed the top share in personal computer server shipments in Japan in the April-September first half of fiscal 2005, the MM Research Institute said Wednesday.
Its share stood at 22.5 pct in the period, up 5.1 percentage points from a year before, according to the research institute. Dell thus captured the top slot for the first time on a first-half basis.
NEC Corp. slipped to second from the top slot with a share of 22.2 pct. Hewlett-Packard Japan Ltd. came third and IBM Japan Ltd. fourth.
Total PC server shipments in Japan in April-September surged 35.1 pct from a year before to 240,000 units on the back of robust corporate investment.
In value, PC server shipments rose 40 pct to 106.8 billion yen.END
