False bomb alert at Ciampino airport, flights cancelled
ROME, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Budget airline Ryanair cancelled five flights Wednesday morning after a false bomb alert at Rome's Ciampino airport, police said.
Police swooped on Ciampino at local time 06:10 a.m. after an anonymous caller phoned the airport to say a bomb had been planted aboard a Ryanair plane.
The carrier's planes were thoroughly searched by bomb disposal experts using sniffer dogs but nothing suspicious was found.
Police also inspected other planes at the small airport, which mainly serves charter flights, as well as the airport building and passengers' luggage.
The alert lasted little more than an hour and led to the cancellation of Ryanair flights to Hanover, London, Paris, Verona and Treviso.
