"The appointment of Steve demonstrates Microsoft's worldwide commitment to health enterprises," said Peter Boit, vice president of the Commercial Sector at Microsoft. "Steve's deep experience in healthcare solutions and knowledge of the industry will help take Microsoft's healthcare industry strategy to the next level."
Shihadeh's key priority as general manager is to help health industry constituents realize their potential for improved productivity, quality and safety through proven innovations and reduced complexity. To achieve this, Shihadeh will lead the strategy for sales, marketing, services and partnerships that build on the momentum Microsoft has achieved with products such as the new Microsoft(R) Office System, Microsoft .NET technologies, BizTalk(R) Accelerator for HIPAA, Windows Server(TM) 2003 and the Tablet PC.
Toward this aim, Shihadeh brings more than 25 years of broad experience and success in healthcare sales, marketing and general management for healthcare technology leaders such as Shared Medical Systems Corp. and, most recently, Siemens Medical Solutions. Shihadeh led a national 500-plus person sales and service team while serving as senior vice president of sales at Siemens Medical Solutions, where he helped customers solve key healthcare challenges. His prior executive-level healthcare industry appointments include vice president of customer operations for Shared Medical Systems and general manager of Healthcare Data Exchange LLC.
"I was attracted to this position because of Microsoft's commitment to enabling the development of cost-effective solutions that automate paper-based processes, streamline workflow and allow workers throughout the industry to focus on what they do best: deliver healthcare," Shihadeh said. "Technology innovations such as the Microsoft .NET Framework and the new Microsoft Office System help reduce development costs and allow software vendors and healthcare organizations to integrate and develop solutions faster and less expensively."
Former general manager David Lubinski will continue in a leadership role as managing director for the Microsoft Healthcare Industry Solutions Group, where he will focus on advancing the company's industry strategy, solutions and partners on a global basis. Lubinski will report to Shihadeh in his new role.
