Sprint Unit to Serve Business, Government

Posted on: Thursday, 8 December 2005, 21:00 CST

By Jason Gertzen, The Kansas City Star, Mo.

Dec. 8--Sprint Nextel Corp. today said it has created a new subsidiary to work on mobile communications projects for large businesses and government agencies.

Sprint Enterprise Mobility Inc. will consult with clients, manage projects and, in some cases, operate new services, according to Sprint.

"Most businesses recognize the potential that mobility solutions offer, but tell us they don't have the expertise or resources to tackle major deployments across multiple companies and operating systems," Len Lauer, Sprint's chief operating officer, said in a statement. "Acting upon these needs from our customers, we've launched Sprint Enterprise Mobility with an experienced team well-positioned to provide professional services expertise. We also believe this initiative enhances Sprint's reputation for leadership and innovation in business mobility solutions."

Bill Halbert will serve as president of the Sprint subsidiary.

"Our team will work with Sprint Nextel, other wireless providers, leading systems integrators, device manufacturers and application developers to create comprehensive, tailored mobility solutions," Halbert said in a statement.

In morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange, Sprint shares were up 4 cents at $24.65. Shares have traded in a 52-week range of $21.57 to $27.20.
