MICROSOFT Malaysia expects to sign up more business customers, particularly among small and mid-tier players, with the recently announced Software Assurance (SA) program.

Its licensing manager for the small mid-market solutions and partners group Terrence Yong said the program is similar to an insurance premium which provides customers the ability to spread payment annually, assistance and tools necessary and software upgrades to keep them up-to- date.

Yong added that with the SA program, customers can save up to 29 per cent the next time they upgrade to new software. It covers 24 months but customers can always renew the program.

The program is offered to Microsoft's volume licensing customers, including its retail product and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) customers.

Of special interest under the program is the employee home-use rights for Microsoft Office System products which include Office Suite, FrontPage, InfoPath, OneNote, Project, Publisher and Visio.

Now with home-use rights, employees can install these applications on their home computers for both business and personal use. With the program, employees are entitled up to 30 per cent discount off the estimated retail price for dozens of Microsoft products.

Customers who enrol into the program will also enjoy enhanced supports and tools. Eligible customers for example, can have their problems solved through TechNet Online Concierge Chat - a self-help learning environment that includes Web-based premium content.

Other benefits include training vouchers for certified professionals and access to e-learning.

Yong said with the training and tools included, information technology professionals will have an easier time managing new products, updates and other content on desktops and servers.
