Microsoft(R) Expands Surgient Implementation With Interactive Learning Solution

Posted on: Monday, 17 November 2003, 06:00 CST

Surgient, a pioneer in enterprise applications based on virtualization technology, today announced that Microsoft, the worldwide leader in software, services and Internet technologies for personal and business computing, has implemented additional Surgient solutions to augment its developer learning solutions. The implementation, which will serve developers that want to learn about Microsoft's Virtual Studio.NET product, was completed in October.

"The Surgient team put forth a tremendous effort to integrate their solution with our environment, building a model for efficient, interactive learning," said Martin McGurk, lead product manager for Microsoft's customer program content development. "Their virtualization knowledge, practical applications and workflow technology saves us time and ultimately dollars in content development expenses."

Surgient's Virtual Training Management System (VTMS) simplifies and automates the process of creating and managing live software training classes online. The solution eliminates the highly repetitive and costly process of setting up live software training environments enabling companies to provide more training opportunities with a higher quality student experience.

Microsoft first began using Surgient solutions a year ago, beginning with Surgient's Virtual Sales Demo Management system (VDMS) to provide thousands of developers free and easy access to a full-featured online version of Visual Studio .NET for evaluation. That implementation has lowered product marketing costs significantly, and proved so successful in increasing productivity that other divisions quickly became interested in additional Surgient applications.

As the first ISV to leverage virtualization technology in applications, Surgient has created a suite of applications that enable software companies to realize immediate productivity improvements at a fraction of the cost of homegrown alternatives.

Surgient's new suite of products automates software delivery cycle processes and includes three primary applications:

-- Virtual Demo Management System (VDMS) -- Provides unprecedented

control and cost savings on the delivery of software demos and online

product evaluations. -- Virtual Training Management System (VTMS) -- Enhances the training

experience and cuts costs by automating training infrastructure

provisioning. -- Virtual QA/Test Management System (VQMS) -- Makes QA/testing a

strategic advantage by accelerating testing and reducing costs.

Surgient solutions leverage the industry-leading Virtualization Control Architecture, which separates the logical environment from the physical in order to optimize, control and deploy virtual resources in the context of specific business applications. The VCA's centralized control of virtual resources and applications, together with automated scheduling and workflow, makes dynamic application provisioning possible. Supporting Microsoft's .NET framework, Surgient solutions are easily optimized for different audiences, including fully automated, self-service training environments targeted at end users. In addition, to accelerate implementation and deployment, Surgient hosts its solutions for those customers who prefer to outsource the running and management of their applications.

"Microsoft is committed to delivering exceptional training experiences for their .NET developers," said Bill Daniel, CEO of Surgient. "Through our combined efforts, we are pleased to be able to help Microsoft offer this innovative, learner-centric solution."
