Occam Networks Strengthens Packet Access Network Alliance With Three New Partners; Auroras Entertainment, Best Data and ReadyLinks Join Partnership Program
Posted on: Monday, 12 December 2005, 09:00 CST
Occam Networks Inc. (OTCBB: OCCM), a supplier of innovative Ethernet and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies worldwide, today announced three new partners in the Occam Packet Access Network Alliance (OPAN): Auroras Entertainment, an end-to-end IPTV service provider; Best Data, a leading developer and manufacturer of analog and broadband communication products; and ReadyLinks, a Minneapolis-based broadband solutions company. The OPAN alliance is a multicompany partnership program focused exclusively on delivering comprehensive, interoperable and easily supported next-generation solutions for the access network that minimize deployment, operational and maintenance cost for service providers.
"Programs like Occam's OPAN are highly beneficial to service providers as they transition their access networks to deliver Triple Play services because it simplifies the entire process for them," said Teresa Mastrangelo, principal analyst at Broadbandtrends. "The OPAN alliance offers service providers tried and tested solutions developed by the participating partners who have worked together closely to ensure these products can be deployed easily and will interoperate seamlessly in the service providers' networks."
As members of the OPAN alliance, the three new partners will participate in interoperability testing, joint field trials, cross training and coordination among support organizations and in the development of real-life solutions that simplify the delivery of new, revenue-generating services over Ethernet and IP access networks.
"Occam provides leading IP transport and access network equipment that is essential for the successful deployment of IPTV," said Mike Kazmier, president and chief technology officer of Auroras. "By partnering with Occam though the OPAN Alliance, Auroras can assure its customers that Occam-based solutions will perform exceptionally well and that both companies will work together to ensure that our customers will profit from the triple play of voice, video and data."
Auroras is an end-to-end provider of the infrastructure, services and content that empower the next generation of in-home television entertainment over broadband networks. The Auroras IPTV Gateway provides the foundation for IPTV services, including supporting the next generation of Everything on Demand. The Auroras IPTV solution leverages the advanced capabilities of Occam IP-based transport and last mile solutions to give operators the advantage in deploying triple-play services.
"Occam is well known as a leading provider of IP- and Ethernet-based broadband loop carriers within the industry," said Bruce Zaman, president and CEO of Best Data. "We recognize that the most robust solutions for delivering Triple Play services are comprised of complementary products from a variety of manufacturers. We are committed to working with the leading manufacturers through the OPAN alliance to help create and deliver these solutions to service providers."
Best Data develops and manufactures a full line of DSL modems that are specifically designed to support the delivery of Triple Play for voice, data, and video, as well as a full line of cable modems. Occam and Best Data have recently completed interoperability testing between the Occam BLC 6000 and the Best Data 542 and 582 ADSL2/2+ modems, offering 4 and 8 ports, respectively, and specifically designed to support the "Triple Play" of voice, data and video with the higher bandwidth of 24Mbps and feature VLAN and PPPoE pass through.
"The OPAN alliance offers us the opportunity to work with companies like Occam that have the broad experience and technical depth to develop solutions that enable service providers to deliver new services more efficiently and cost-effectively," said Larry Synstelien, president of ReadyLinks. "This alliance is good for us, for our partners and for our customers."
Occam and ReadyLinks have recently completed interoperability testing between the Occam BLC 6000 and the ReadyLinks Ethernet Bridge, a HPNA v3 bridge that enables the delivery of voice, video and data applications over existing home wiring and the ReadyLinks SmartFoot Ethernet Bridge, a custom adapter for Amino set top boxes that provides instant IPTV access using existing house wiring.
"We are delighted with the number and with the quality of the organizations that are joining OPAN," said Russ Sharer, vice president of sales and marketing for Occam Networks. "There are many innovative companies like Auroras, Best Data and ReadyLinks who have joined the alliance, all of whom are dedicated to simplifying the access network to make service delivery easier and more profitable for service providers."
