Cyclades Showcases New Service Processor Manager and Out-of-Band Infrastructure Solutions at Interop 2005
Posted on: Monday, 12 December 2005, 09:00 CST
Cyclades Corporation, the leader in next-generation IT infrastructure management, today announced it will showcase the AlterPath(TM) OnBoard, its new service processor manager, at Interop(R) New York 2005, December 12-16 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, booth 929. For the second time this year, Interop's network operators have selected Cyclades as the official out-of-band infrastructure (OOBI) provider for the InteropNet, the convention's sophisticated, short-term network built in collaboration with chosen network vendors.
AlterPath OnBoard -- Unleashing the Power of Service Processors
Most next-generation servers contain a service processor, separate from the main processor, that provides remote access to server power control, sensor readings, and in some cases server configuration, monitoring and remote keyboard and mouse control. Enterprises have invested heavily in service processors for server management; yet without effective management tools in place, enterprises have been unable to take advantage of this key resource within the server. Cyclades AlterPath OnBoard with Secure Rack Management(TM) (patent pending) combines hardware and software into an appliance that acts as a protocol gateway, enabling the secure integration of servers so that they can be operated consistently, regardless of protocol type. System administrators can locally or remotely perform operations such as power cycle, remote console access, hardware monitoring and management, and event management across multiple servers using one simplified user interface. Key benefits of the AlterPath OnBoard include increased productivity, reduced risk and reduced operational costs.
InteropNet
The InteropNet is built in collaboration with leading hand-selected networking vendors whose products are put to the test as part of this ultimate networking challenge. The InteropNet offers reliable, high-speed network services to all Interop exhibitors, conferences and meeting rooms. This ideal network addresses an organization's complete networking needs and sets the bar for innovation and expertise.
Cyclades OOBI solutions -- AlterPath ACS advance console server, KVM switches and the AlterPath Manager -- will be integrated into the InteropNet. Consequently, InteropNet technicians can remotely access, diagnose and restore disconnected network and IT assets (servers, switches, firewalls, routers, etc.) to the network, where they can be quickly managed back to productivity. The high cost and lost time associated with site visits to troubleshoot and restore disconnected assets can be greatly reduced through the remote access, monitoring and management capabilities offered by an OOBI. Deploying OOBI solutions is one of the most effective ways to reduce IT costs while improving IT asset and personnel productivity and service levels.
"Interop selects leading vendors in each of their respective product categories to be included in eNet to provide attendees and exhibitors with reliable network services," said Marcio Saito, Cyclades CTO. "Similar to InteropNet requirements, enterprises also demand an effective way to access and manage each piece of their equipment. Cyclades AlterPath System eliminates the need for IT professionals to physically perform routine maintenance tasks and to restore network connectivity when it is lost, therefore providing a more effective way to maintain and elevate services levels, while significantly reducing labor, logistical and other operational costs."
About the Out-of-Band Infrastructure (OOBI)
The OOBI provides secure alternate paths into the production infrastructure so that disconnected assets can be reconnected and subsequently returned to normal operation. This infrastructure includes serial console servers, KVM analog and KVM over IP switches, intelligent power distribution units, service processor managers, and blade managers, all controlled by an OOBI manager like Cyclades AlterPath Manager.
