Microsoft's Xbox 360 Gets Off to Slow Start in Japan

Tokyo, Dec. 13 (Jiji Press)--Microsoft Corp.'s new video game console Xbox 360 has gotten off to a sluggish start in Japan, with an estimated 62,000 units sold in the two days after its launch Saturday, game magazine publisher Enterbrain Inc. said Tuesday.
The figure is weak compared with initial sales of the first- generation Xbox, which sold some 124,000 units in the three days after its launch in February 2002.
The slow start stems mainly from the postponement of the launch of Tecmo Ltd.'s game "Dead or Alive 4" of the popular fighting game series, the publisher said. Tecmo initially planned to release the game on the same day as the launch date for the Xbox 360, but the release has been postponed.
The Xbox 360 console is Microsoft's second attempt to challenge the dominance of Sony Corp.'s PlayStation machines in the game market, following the poor performance of the Xbox in Japan in particular.END
