Dec. 13–PEORIA — With more and more medical information moving to the Internet, OSF Health Plans and the University of Illinois Medical School at Peoria have teamed up to offer a series of Web seminars on a variety of medical topics.

The informational sessions are called webinars, said Jeff Koch, market communications manager for OSF Health Plans.

“We were looking for a way to offer continuing education to physicians,” he said.

The webinar is a 60-minute video and 10-question exam. A score of 80 percent receives 1 Continuing Education Unit from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, said Koch.

The first webinar focuses on asthma with Dr. Stephen Smart, a Peoria physician, discussing various treatments, he said.

“Our main audience is (medical) providers and their office staff. They, in turn, can direct patients to the site for more information,” said Koch.

The general public is free to access the site, however, he said. “All you need is a high-speed Internet connection,” said Koch.

Washington-based Video ID produced the programs of full-motion streaming video for the site.

The site is available at webinar.osfhealthplans.com.
