MILPITAS, Calif., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Logic Corporation has named Robert Bielby vice president, Custom Solutions Group Marketing. He will lead market development for the company's standard products and custom silicon, as well as its popular RapidChip(R) Platform ASIC portfolio. Bielby reports to Jeff Richardson, executive vice president, Custom Solutions Group.

Previously, Bielby was senior director of Vertical Marketing and Partnerships for Xilinx Corporation. He has more than 19 years of experience in the areas of strategic marketing, new market development, product and system definition, and design of products ranging from high density programmable logic devices to high density, high reliability digital data magnetic tape recorders.

"We are excited to have someone with Robert's technology and marketing experience on our team," said Richardson. "With his deep technical background and his understanding of market dynamics, Robert is ideally suited to develop and execute on LSI's strategy to bring a complete end solution to our customers."

Bielby is responsible for establishing LSI product market requirements, developing and driving market segment business plans, and promoting product capabilities into targeted market segments.

"LSI has demonstrated innovative leadership in both standard IC products and custom silicon, and with RapidChip, continues to be the leader in Platform ASICs," said Bielby. "Lower cost, low power consumption and reduced risk have made custom silicon the preferred solution for meeting highly specific design needs. Prior to joining Xilinx in 1998, Bielby spent eight years with Altera Corporation, where he was responsible for the definition of Altera's programmable logic device families and architectures. He previously held senior engineering roles with Datatape Incorporated.

Bielby holds a bachelor's of science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and holds 29 patents in the areas of digital signal processing and programmable logic device architectures. He has published and presented multiple papers across a wide range of publications and at a large number of technical forums.
