Fujitsu Network Communications Earns Custom-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) Certification

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading supplier of IT and wireline/wireless networking solutions, announced today that they have received Custom-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) certification from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency by demonstrating effective security measures within the organization and a commitment to strengthening supply chain security. Fujitsu is among a select group of companies in the U.S. to receive Tier 3 certification, the highest certification level, granted only to importers that exceed minimum C-TPAT security requirements.

C-TPAT membership requires dedication to reviewing and strengthening security measures throughout a company's international supply chain(s). C-TPAT members are encouraged to adopt security measures identified by the CBP agency as "best practices," which include active involvement of senior company leadership/management in the security enhancement process; adopting C-TPAT security measures through contractual means on the entire international supply chain; using GPS tracking devices; providing security escorts to borders and ports; adopting encrypted IT security systems; creating detailed screening procedures for clients, suppliers, and manufacturers; and other stringent security measures.

"There are more than 300,000 importers in the U.S., but only 300 to 400 importers have achieved Tier 3 C-TPAT status, which allows for smoother customs clearance and less intensive examination on import shipments due to implementation of advanced security measures," said George Chase, group president and chief operating officer of Fujitsu Network Communications. "The CBP validation team conducted numerous on-site visits to assess every aspect of our supply chain security profile, including procedural security, physical security, access controls, personnel security, education, and training awareness. Their final report indicated that we have gone well beyond the minimum requirements to adapt our current business practices and security profile to meet the rigorous guidelines of C-TPAT."

As part of the validation process, Fujitsu corporate offices, manufacturing plants and distribution centers were selected for the initial site visits, as well as the port facility where Fujitsu ships products to customers located around the world. This comprehensive validation process ensured that the company's operations concerning the loading and handling of containers originating from all manufacturing plants meet the C-TPAT criteria.
