Chaska.Net Selects Ellacoya Networks for Service Control on Broadband Wireless Network
Posted on: Thursday, 15 December 2005, 09:00 CST
Ellacoya Networks(TM), Inc., a leading provider of carrier-grade service control solutions for broadband IP networks, today announced that Chaska.net, a wireless Internet service provider (WISP) has deployed the Ellacoya IP Service Control System(TM) to identify and manage application traffic on its broadband network. Chaska.net is using the Ellacoya system to gain granular visibility into application and subscriber usage, and manage traffic based on that data to ensure fair usage on its state-of-the-art broadband wireless mesh network powered by the Tropos Networks MetroMesh Architecture.
"We were challenged with bandwidth-intensive application usage on the network by a small percentage of subscribers, as it was affecting the performance of the majority of subscribers using e-mail and Web applications not to mention mission-critical business traffic," said Bradley Mayer, IS Manager for Chaska.net. "Ellacoya has given us the ability to understand, and manage, the application traffic on our network so that we can deliver expected performance to all of our customers. The platform also has prioritization, intrusion management and new service delivery functionality that we plan to leverage."
The Ellacoya system, consisting of Ellacoya's e30 switches and Service Logic Software(TM) (SLS) identifies application traffic flowing to and from Chaska.net's broadband wireless mesh network and the public IP network. It is configured to manage bandwidth-intensive applications, based on parameters set by the wireless service provider, to make certain they do not adversely affect the performance of other users nor consume excessive amounts of capacity. The result for Chaska.net has been increased customer satisfaction, reduction in customer service calls, and significant cost savings from not having to add more capacity to the network.
"The explosion of high bandwidth applications on both wireless and wireline networks, while engendering new opportunities for service providers, is affecting the user's service experience. With application and subscriber-level control, the broadband provider is able to manage the network resources to ascertain a positive user experience while not having to over-engineer the network," said Gerald Wesel, Chairman and CEO of Ellacoya Networks. "Chaska.net has built a model broadband wireless network and we are very pleased to be part of that environment."
