NETGEAR First to Launch Layer 3 Switch with Power Over Ethernet

November 17, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — NETGEAR, Inc. , a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced the latest addition to its line of Layer 3 switches, the NETGEAR FSM7326P 24+2 Layer 3 Managed Switch with Power-Over-Ethernet. Designed to address the price and functionality requirements of growing companies in the small and medium business sector, the FSM7326P provides both Layer 2 and Layer 3 managed switching functionality to enhance traditional data networking performance while supporting standards-based IEEE 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) devices such as Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephones, security cameras and PoE-enabled business-class wireless access points, including NETGEAR’s WG302 ProSafe(TM) 802.11g Access Point.

Affordable and reliable, the FSM7326P features 24 10/100 Mbps ports and two copper gigabit ports and is packed with robust routing, switching and quality-of-service (QoS) feature sets. Equipped with PoE capability, the value-packed FSM7326P can deliver both power and data over a single Ethernet cable. Utilizing its Layer 3 dynamic routing capabilities, small and medium businesses can off-load expensive routers and increase performance across network subnets. At less than $70 per port, the FSM7326P delivers advanced capabilities to small and medium businesses at a breakthrough value.

“As a market share leader in Fast Ethernet and Gigabit unmanaged switching products, NETGEAR is recognized in the small and medium business sector as the go-to provider for cost-effective, value-packed business-class networking solutions,” explained Peter Newton, Product Line Manager for NETGEAR. “NETGEAR’s newest Layer 3 switch, the FSM7326P, provides organizations an affordable, easy-to-use solution that enables them to migrate their network infrastructure to support a growing number of advanced cost-saving, performance enhancing applications.”

The FSM7326P 24+2 Layer 3 Managed 10/100 Switch with Power-over-Ethernet is easy to set up and use, with an intuitive browser-based interface or CLI for the configuration and management of both data and power functions. The high-density 1U design also features small form-factor (SFP) slots for optional use with GBIC modules such as NETGEAR’s AGM731F SFP GBIC SX module for 1000BASE-SX connections or AGM7322F SFP GBIC LX module for 1000BASE-LX connections, providing high speed and redundant links to mission critical servers or to the network backbone.

The FSM7326P provides multiple VLAN support, wire speed routing and redundancy enabling users to optimize the network so that all users and applications receive the throughput they need without affecting critical applications. The advanced routing and switching capabilities of the FSM7326P include: IPv4 routing at wire speed with up to 512 routes per unit, VRRP (IP redundancy), ICMP, RIP I and RIP II, OSPF2, DHCP/BOOTP relay, port trunking, broadcast storm protection, extensive VLAN support, IGMP snooping, Rapid Spanning Tree, link aggregation, DiffServ, access control lists, and bandwidth provisioning.

Backed by a five-year warranty and 24/7 technical support, the NETGEAR FSM7326P 24+2 Layer 3 Managed 10/100 Switch with Power-over-Ethernet will be available in December 2003 via value added resellers, direct marketers and e-commerce sites, at a list price of $1,750.
