Qingdao port enjoys world highest shipping efficiency
QINGDAO, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- The berth shipping efficiency of east China's Qingdao port reaches 181 containers each hour, ranking the world's top, according to the latest statistics provided by the world leading shipping company Maersk Sealand Group.
As of mid December, Qingdao port has reported an aggregate throughput of 180 million tons, and the volume of containers handled by the port surpassed 6 million, achieving the goal of this year half a month ahead the schedule.
An official with the port said the yearly handling capacity of the Qingdao port was set to be 100 million tons. And it is the high efficiency of the port that maximizes its capacity.
Currently, foreign trade throughput of Qingdao port remains in the second place among China's coastal ports.
The port also enjoys world largest ore throughput and its ore shipping efficiency renews the world record for four times.
The official said the high shipping efficiency saves a huge quantity of costs for the customers.
