[Presenter] The first container train left Poti [port in western Georgia] today for the Kazakh town of Aktau. The 23-waggon train launched the regular Poti-Baku-Aktau-Almaty cargo train service. Georgian Economic Development Minister Irakli Chogovadze and the heads of the Georgian, Azeri and Kazakh railway departments attended the ceremony. The tripartite agreement on the train service was signed in November. Trains will carry dry cargo from Georgia to Kazakhstan through Azerbaijan twice a month.
[Talgan Lesov, representative of Kazakh railways] The launch of this container train service confirms that our states are committed to the development of trade, economic and transport links.
[Irakli Chogovadze, economic development minister] This is a very important event, and it is also linked to the continuation and profitability of the [proposed] Kars [Turkey]-Akhalkalaki-Baku railway project.
