Dec. 26--SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics Co. plans to conclude an agreement with Sony Corp. early next year to supply the Japanese consumer electronics maker with flash memory for use in portable music players, the Korea Economic Daily reported Monday.

The expected deal is likely to help consolidate Samsung's hold over the global flash memory market. The South Korean manufacturer is expanding sales of flash memory, which is also used in Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod players, according to the newspaper.

Samsung has said it has been negotiating a flash memory deal with Sony and provided no specifics.

The Korea Economic Daily said Sony wants Samsung flash memory with a capacity of at least eight gigabytes. The Japanese manufacturer reportedly asked for a volume larger than that supplied to Apple.
