Fuji Photo Film to Acquire Avecia Inkjet for 30.8 Billion Yen

Posted on: Tuesday, 27 December 2005, 12:00 CST

By Kyodo News International, Tokyo

Dec. 26--TOKYO -- Fuji Photo Film Co. said Monday it will purchase British inkjet printing colorants maker Avecia Inkjet Ltd. outright for 150 million pounds, or 30.8 billion yen, by next February.

The purchase of Avecia, which controls about 40 percent of the global market for inkjet colorants and expects sales equivalent to 14.3 billion yen this year, will give Fuji Photo the leadership in the sector.

While its photo film sales have been on the decline due to the spread of digital cameras, Fuji Photo has been enjoying robust demand for its home-use photo printing inks. It entered the business in 2003 and ranks eighth in the world.

The Japanese company aims to expand its home-use printer ink business by taking advantage of the wide product offerings, production facilities and marketing channels of the British firm.
