MIDLAND: Train is Halted By Body on Line

Passengers were stranded in freezing conditions for over an hour after a train struck a man’s body close to a Midlands railway station last night.

The Virgin Trains 4pm service from Northampton to Liverpool Lime Street came to a halt at Dudley Port station, near Tipton, Sandwell, at 6.19pm when the driver raised the alarm.

Commuters were urged to remain on the train when British Transport Police officers, and other emergency services, arrived at the scene.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: “The driver reported striking a body on the railway line at Dudley Port railway station, and our officers together with other emergency personnel responded.

“The body of a man, who was fatally injured, was discovered at the scene.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated but it is not being treated as suspicious.”
