HOLLYWOOD, Fla., Plumtree Odyssey User Conference, Oct. 13
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Enterprise Web leader Plumtree Software today announced that it is developing with Sun's support a version of the Plumtree Enterprise Web Suite for the Solaris(TM) Operating System and Sun Java(TM) System solutions from Sun Microsystems, Inc. . Sun is a gold sponsor of Plumtree's annual user conference, Plumtree Odyssey 2003, and will be presenting at the conference on October 14th, 2003 from 1:30 - 2:15 p.m. ET.
Support for the Solaris OS and Sun Java System software is part of Plumtree's Radical Openness strategy for delivering an Enterprise Web environment that can span every major application server, security system, content repository, development environment, search engine and operating system. In a separate release, Plumtree also announced today that the company is planning to deliver the Plumtree Corporate Portal 5.0J, a Java technology-based version of its flagship product in the middle of 2004.
The planned Plumtree Corporate Portal 5.0J is designed to complement Plumtree's Java software-based Collaboration Server, Content Server and Studio Server products, offering customers a comprehensive Java solution for building applications in the Enterprise Web.
Previous versions of Plumtree's portal software offered customers Java user and programming interfaces on UNIX(R) operating systems. In the planned release of the J2EE portal, Plumtree seeks to re-develop its core server and Parallel Portal Engine to allow the portal to run completely within the Java 2, Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM)) application server. The Plumtree Corporate Portal 5.0J is also being designed to feature interoperability with the Java System Directory Server, Messaging Server and Calendar Servers.
The Plumtree Corporate Portal features a Web Services Architecture, which allows low-cost development of standards-based Web services, such as JSR 168 portlets. This can allow customers to extend their investment in Sun.
"By supporting the Solaris and Java platforms, we are offering our customers more choice and flexibility in their Enterprise Web developments," said Plumtree CEO John Kunze. "Better still, our customers will benefit from the J2EE platform's proven scalability, reliability and performance."
"Today's CTO is choosing to reduce costs and complexity through open, integratable systems. By undertaking to deliver the Enterprise Web Suite for the J2EE platform, Plumtree is reaffirming its commitment to open standards and the value that standards deliver," said Rick Saletta, Group Marketing Manager for Java Web Services at Sun. "Together, Sun's Java Enterprise System and Plumtree's Enterprise Web Suite enable customers to choose a best-of-breed stack for their enterprise."
About Radical Openness
Radical Openness is Plumtree's strategy to offer the industry's first Web software that supports every major application server, security system, content repository, development environment, search engine and operating system in use by its customers. Plumtree seeks to execute on this strategy by offering Java and .NET software versions of its solution, with a comprehensive set of Web services-based integration technologies that extend far beyond traditional portlets, and a new set of cross-platform technologies that allow developers to embed services from Plumtree's Enterprise Web solution into their own applications. Plumtree believes that embracing Radical Openness helps customers integrate heterogeneous systems, span business units and merge acquired companies at lower cost, and partner with suppliers, distributors and customers without concern for differences in networks or development preferences.
