Homer is a candidate for mayor on a repeat of "The Simpsons," airing at 7 p.m. Friday on Fox, channel 23 and cable channel 5.
Friday's rerun of "Ghost Whisperer" will rip your heart out. Melinda helps the ghosts of three young boys find their way at 7 p.m. Friday on CBS, channel 6.
That guy who's "strong to the finich 'cause I eats me spinach" returns to his seafaring ways in the 3-D, CGI-animated holiday special, "Popeye's Voyage: The Quest for Pappy," repeating at 7:30 p.m. Friday on Fox, channel 23 and cable channel 5.
Assistant D.A. Annabeth tries to convict a madam without exposing soccer moms working a prostitution ring to make ends meet on a repeat of "Close to Home," at 8 p.m. Friday on CBS, channel 6.
Faith finds her celebrity status restored when her niece uses Faith's death as an excuse to get an extension on her term paper on "Hope & Faith," being rebroadcast at 8 p.m. Friday on ABC, channel 8.
Charlie has to find the hostages after a bank robber is killed before revealing their whereabouts on a rebroadcast of "Numb3rs," 9 p.m. Friday on CBS, channel 6.
The Hallmark channel, cable digital channel 165, plans to head west Saturday with a lineup of Westerns that includes: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., "Larry McMurty's Dead Man's Walk," and 2 to 10 p.m., the entire miniseries "Lonesome Dove." In the latter, Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones shine as former Texas Rangers on one last adventure. Also starring are Rick Schroder, Diane Lane, Danny Glover, Robert Urich and Tim Scott.
Get up Cleese and personal with John Cleese and the wacky members of "Monty Python in a New Year's Eve "Python-athon" from noon Saturday to 12:40 a.m. Sunday on BBC America, cable digital channel 166.
Heath Ledger -- be still my beating heart -- gets to do battle with knights in "A Knight's Tale," airing at 7 p.m. Saturday on NBC, channel 2 and cabel channel 9.
Cuba Gooding Jr. is in for surprises as a Miami dentist who ends up leading his late mother's dog sled team in a race in "Snow Dogs," airing at 7 p.m. Saturday on ABC, channel 8.
Speaking of hunks, Colin Farrell plays Macedonia's boy king in "Alexander," airing at 7 p.m. Saturday on HBO, pay digital channel 300.
Chick flicks are the order for Saturday evening on TNT, cable channel 29. At 6 p.m. Sandra Bullock is a steak-chomping FBI agent transformed into lovely Miss New Jersey in "Miss Congeniality." At 8 and 10:30 p.m., Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks team up in the charming "You've Got Mail" followed by "Sleepless in Seattle."
Fox shifts its programming a bit to include a repeat epsiode of "Bones" at 7 p.m. and a rebroadcast episode of "House" at 8 p.m. Both air Saturday on channel 23 and cable channel 5.
A nanny disappears with her charge in a repeat episode of "Without a Trace" at 8 p.m. Saturday on CBS, channel 6.
GAC (aka Great American Country) has country star Neal McCoy ringing in the new year with "GAC's New Year's Eve Party" from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday on digital cable channel 158. The party of videos includes McCoy's own "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On," Montgomery Gentry's "Hell Yeah," Gretchen Wilson's "Here for the Party" and more.
Dick Clark is back to co-host his "New Year's Rockin' Eve" with Ryan Secrest from 9 to 10 p.m. and then continuing from 10:35 p.m. to 2 a.m. on ABC, channel 8. Live coverage will be interspersed with taped segments and Mariah Carey will perform from Times Square. The early segment will included taped highlights from the Green Day and Duran Duran tours. Hilary Duff will serve as host and a performer on the late edition with music by Sugarland, the Bangles, Chris Brown, Sean Paul, 3 Doors Down, 311 and the Pussycat Dolls.
At 9:30 p.m., it will be the "New Year of Music," on MTV, cable channel 39. The live show will featur five DJs and music by Kanye West, Shakira, Common, Adam Levine, Paul Wall, Young Jeezy and Oklahoma's own All-American Rejects.
Regis Philbin, of "Regis & Kelly" fame will host the Fox party "New Year's Eve Live" at 10 p.m. on channel 23 and cable channel 5. The show includes lives interviewers with our very own Carrie Underwood and Donald Trump and appearances by Nick Cannon, John O'Hurley and Tyler Hilton.
ESPN2 gets into the party-hearty game with "ESPN New Year's Eve" a two-hour celebration featuring Little Steven's Underground Garage, Stuart Scott, Steven Van Zandt, top athletes and music acts live from New York. The show is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. on cable channel 26 and will be joined immediately after the Giants vs. Oakland football game on ESPN, cable channel 25. The year in sports will be reviewed with highlights including segments called images of the year, Most Valuable Player seasons, great finishes, sports spectacular, foot-in-mouth, against all odds, big hits and the not- so-top 10.
NBC will compete with Carson Daily as host of "New Year's Eve," live at 10:30 p.m. Wanda Sykes will lend a hand and Mary K. Blige will perform live from New York City, all on channel 2, cable channel 9.
The delayed broadcast of "Saturday Night Live" will air at 12:10 a.m. with host Jon Heder and performer Ashlee Simpson. The repeat show will air on NBC, channel 2 and cable channel 9.
USA Network, cable channel 34, has 22 hours of "Monk" kicking off at 5 a.m. Sunday, just in case you feel the need to laugh while you're solving a case.
On Sunday, the Hallmark Channel continues its Westerns with "The Indian Fighter" (Kirk Douglas and Walter Matthau) at noon, "Once Upon a Time in the West" (Henry Fonda and Charles Bronson) at 2 p.m., "McLintock!" (John Wayne) at 5:30 p.m., and "The Shootist" (John Wayne in his last film appearance) at 8 p.m. All on cable digital channel 165.
Just in case you missed a tear-jerking episode of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," ABC Family will repeat seven back-to-back episodes from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday on cable channbel 37. The idea is if you didn't cry the first time you saw the show, you will after watching seven reruns.
If you didn't catch the "Bob Hope Specials" last Sunday, the Military Channel, cable digital channel 104, will be repeating them from 1 to 7 p.m.
Olympic champions Brian Boitano and the duo of David Pelletier and Jame Sale are featured in the "Brian Boitano Skating Spectacular," at 3 p.m. Saturday on NBC, channel 2 and cable channel 9.
No new episodes for those desperate for "Desperate Housewives," but ABC has the special "Desperate Housewives: All the Juicy Details" at 8 p.m. Sunday on channel 8. The hour follows the story arc of each character with original narration by Mary Alice Young, who will guide viewers through the wickedly delicious twists and turns of their stories.
That way, the network can get you to watch a preview of its new series "In Justice" at 9 p.m. on the same channel. Based on the lives of real-life lawyers, this show has Kyle MacLachlan as founder of a firm of attorneys that re-open cases of people they think were wrongly convicted. Also starring are Jason O'Mara, Marisol Nichols and Constance Zimmer. The series moves to 8 p.m. Friday's next week.
PBS rings in the new year with "Great Performances: From Vienna: The New Year's Celebration," at 7 p.m. Sunday on channel 11. Walter Cronkite is your host with Lorin Maazel conducting the Vienna Philharmonic.
