Moore Puts List of Sex Offenders on Internet

Jan. 3–MOORE — Information about convicted sex offenders living in Moore is now as close as a computer with Internet access, police Sgt. Todd Strickland said.
A Web page, which went online last week, shows a color photograph and lists each sex offender’s name, address, date of birth, offense and conviction date.
Each address is posted on a map above the listings. A “plus” sign above the map window enlarges it to 200 percent so that the addresses are legible, Strickland said.
The Web site also includes a link to a directory of sex offenders in the state of Oklahoma.
“A lot of the cities have gone to this,” Strickland said. “It’s an additional tool that we can offer to our citizens. There are a lot of people that move into town wanting to know how many registered sex offenders we have in the area.”
Before the Web site was created, residents who wanted to find out about sex offenders in their area had to come to the police department to look at the registration book, Strickland said.
Strickland said there are about 45 registered sex offenders in town. Some of those are classified as aggravated or habitual sex offenders, who must renew their registration with the police department every 90 days for life.
Other types of sex offenders classified as “non-aggravated” register once a year for 10 years, Strickland said.
