Quest Software Named Leader in Worldwide Non-Mainframe Data Management Facilities Software Market

Posted on: Thursday, 4 December 2003, 06:00 CST

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 2003--

Quest Software Ranked Number One in Distributed Platform

Data Management Facilities Market Share for 2002

Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT), a leading provider of application management solutions, today announced that it has been ranked the overall market share leader in the Worldwide Non-Mainframe Data Management Facilities Software market by research firm International Data Corp. (IDC). The IDC market share report(a) also positions Quest Software as one of just two vendors in the "Leadership Quadrant" of the IDC Leadership Grid for Worldwide Data Management Facilities Software, which reflects a very successful past performance and points to a promising future.

"A core tenet of Quest's strategy is to provide easy-to-use tools at reasonable prices to support DBAs in managing today's complex multi-database-vendor, multi-platform IT environments," Carl W. Olofson, research director, IDC, and Steve McClure, a research vice president in IDC's software research group, stated in the report. "Another core tenet is to focus on high-value, widely adopted software platforms. To date, Quest has executed well on its strategy, as evidenced by its strong revenue growth in spite of a difficult economic climate."

According to IDC, the Non-Mainframe, or Distributed, Platform Segment of the Data Management Facilities Software market is forecasted to grow by 18.7 percent by 2007, while the Mainframe segment of the same market is forecasted to decrease 0.8 percent by 2007. This places Quest Software with a clear lead in the fastest growing segment of the Data Management Facilities Software market.

"Quest Software continues to set the bar for powerful database management solutions that provide DBAs with the built-in expertise and robust performance management features they need to manage their increasingly complex, multi-platform database environments," said John Newsom, vice president, Application Performance Management solutions, Quest Software. "Quest is dedicated to growing its leadership position in the Data Management Facilities market category by expanding its innovative detect, diagnose, resolve methodology across heterogeneous database environments to quickly correct performance issues before they impact the end user."

Quest Database Management Leadership Milestones

Quest Software is committed to delivering database management technology innovation that gives database administrators the powerful desktop workbench they use all day, every day. As Quest delivers on its database management strategy, it has affirmed its leadership position with a long history of industry firsts. In 2001, Quest was the first software vendor to release comprehensive online technical reference solutions for Oracle, DB2 and SQL Server databases. In 2002, Quest Software was the first to deliver "record and playback" functionality for Oracle databases. And, earlier this quarter, with the announcement of Quest Central for Databases 4.0, Quest Software became the first database management solution to combine rich domain-specific functionality and full performance management into a single console for heterogeneous database environments including Oracle, DB2 (distributed and mainframe) and SQL Server. As a result, Quest Software has delivered the industry's only solution to provide built-in expertise and administration capabilities across all three database platforms, minimizing database differences and giving DBAs the expertise to manage multiple databases from a single console.
