AirTran Airways Welcomes X-Fare Travelers in 2006

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. , today announced the re- launch of its popular "X-Fares" standby program for the 18 to 22-year-old traveler beginning January 10, 2006.

Through the X-Fares program, young adults between the ages of 18 and 22 can travel in coach class on a standby-only basis to any of the 48 destinations AirTran Airways serves (excluding Grand Bahama Island) for a fare of $69 per segment of travel ($89 for long-haul segments). To participate, travelers simply select the destination, dates and times they want to travel, and arrive at the AirTran Airways ticket counter at least two hours before the scheduled time of departure. All available flights are listed on AirTran Airways' X-Fares Web site at http://www.xfares.com/.

AirTran Airways created X-Fares in June 1997 to fulfill increased consumer demand for affordable air travel. To date, nearly 700,000 passengers have participated in the program.

X-Fares provisions include: -- Travelers must be 18 to 22 years of age (Once you have reached your 23rd birthday, you are no longer eligible.) -- The cost is $69 per segment or $89 for long-haul segments (a segment is defined as one takeoff and landing). Flights to/from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Denver are considered long-haul segments -- Segment taxes of $3.30 per segment are not included. A segment is defined as a take-off and landing -- September 11th Security fee of $2.50 per segment are not included -- Airport Passenger Facility Charges of up to $4.50 per segment may apply and is not included -- For placement on the X-Fare standby list, travelers must arrive at the AirTran Airways ticket counter two hours in advance of the flight's scheduled departure -- Reservations cannot be made in advance -- Travelers must present valid, government-issued photo identification -- Only one carry-on bag and one personal item per X-Fares traveler is permitted -- Service to Grand Bahama Island is not included in the X-Fares program -- Certain holiday blackout dates apply (see below) -- All travel must be completed by December 15, 2006

The following dates are blacked out for X-Fares travel in 2006: January 1- 9, February 17, 20, April 7-9, 13-16, 23, May 26, 29, June 18, 25, 29, 30, July 1, 5, 9, 16, November 21, 22, 25-27.
