Global Aluminum-Shaping Equipment Supplier Cuts Custom Product Delivery Time With SolidWorks Software

Cometal Engineering, a leading Italian manufacturer of aluminum extrusion and casting systems, has purchased 30 licenses of SolidWorks(R) 3D CAD software to improve the quality of its new equipment and shorten product design cycles.
Founded in 1980, Cometal Engineering has become an international leader in its field, selling superior extrusion presses, furnaces and thermal-treatment systems, hot shears, extrusion benches, cooling systems, handling systems, log-brushing machines, scrap-cutting equipment, and other products on five continents. Cometal heavily customizes products to meet each customer's unique needs. As a result, the company's technical office is an increasingly strategic resource, and design engineer productivity is paramount.
"We selected SolidWorks not only because of its proven capabilities in terms of productivity and ease of use, but also because of the excellent results we had already obtained using SolidWorks' COSMOS(R) analysis software to validate and verify machine components," said Roberto Albertoni, the technical director of Cometal Engineering. "Introducing SolidWorks, we are certain we will reduce design time and dramatically improve overall project quality - both very important considerations for a company that manufactures equipment with constantly changing characteristics."
Before choosing SolidWorks as its 3D CAD software standard, Cometal had been using COSMOSWorks(R) and COSMOSFloWorks(TM) design analysis software for several years to meet its fluid, thermal, and structural challenges - e.g., assessing fluid dynamics phenomena in furnaces and in cooling systems.
"Excelling at the international level requires a company to keep itself continuously up to date in the market and in the tools that can best advance its products," adds Michel Gros, vice president of SolidWorks Europe. "We're confident Cometal will experience the same international success with SolidWorks software that it has with our COSMOSWorks and COSMOSFloWorks analysis products."
Cometal works closely with authorized SolidWorks reseller Nuovamacut for ongoing training, implementation, and support.
