-The Second of Two Major IT Partnerships Announced by G&G Clients on Opposite Coasts in the Same Month-
The County of San Diego, a client of information technology law firm, Gordon & Glickson LLC, announced they will consider a $667 million pact with Northrop Grumman Information Technology, Inc. to manage the County's expansive information technology and telecommunications needs. If approved at the Jan. 24 meeting of the Board of Supervisors, the contract will be one of the largest in the County's history. (The County of San Diego's Announcement http://tinyurl.com/9zp4r)
Northrop Grumman would replace the County's existing vendor, Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC), hired in 1999 when the County first decided to outsource its information technology and telecommunications requirements. Touted nationally as one of the largest privatizations of government for its time, the contract with CSC demonstrates many successes despite the County's current decision to change vendors.
"Gordon & Glickson was instrumental in helping us examine the unique ramifications of transferring this relationship from one vendor to another," said Michael Moore, the County's Chief Information Officer. "Serving as our advisors on both sourcing initiatives, and having that history together, we were able to work out a great deal for the county."
The County of San Diego deal is just one of two major government IT partnerships announced by Gordon & Glickson clients on opposite coasts in the same month. Gordon & Glickson also played a leading role in the highly publicized IT partnerships recently announced by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
In early December, the Commonwealth of Virginia, through the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA), announced an interim agreement to partner with Northrop Grumman Information Technology, Inc. to modernize the state's information technology infrastructure. The 10-year contract worth more than $2 billion is believed to be the largest of its kind and is estimated to bring over 1,000 jobs to Southwest Virginia and Chesterfield County. Virginia also confirmed a second agreement with CGI-AMS Inc. to redesign, update, and integrate business processes and systems in the Commonwealth's Executive Branch. "To be engaged in two of the largest government IT partnerships on both coasts in the same month is truly exciting," said Mark L. Gordon, managing partner of Gordon & Glickson. "We were proud to be involved."
