San Diego Data Processing Corp. Selects AT&T for Expanded Voice And Data Services

Posted on: Thursday, 23 October 2003, 06:00 CDT

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The San Diego Data Processing Corporation (SDDPC) has selected AT&T to provide an extensive portfolio of integrated data and voice communications services, including a new one-gigabit Ethernet backbone. Terms of the multi-year, multi-million-dollar agreement were not disclosed.

SDDPC, a nonprofit corporation owned by the City of San Diego, provides information systems and telecommunication services for nearly all city departments, plus various county, state and federal agencies.

The new integrated AT&T infrastructure will play a major role in improving the speed, efficiency and reliability of SDDPC's regional systems and applications that support key city departments -- including the police and fire departments, city administration, social services, public utilities and libraries.

The state-of-the-art network also will allow SDDPC to benefit from AT&T's ability to deliver a wide-range of advanced services -- including multimedia applications, video and e-commerce capabilities -- faster, and with greater reliability.

"When SDDPC stated their desire to take their technology infrastructure to the next level, we knew we had to respond with a network solution that provided advanced capabilities and reliability that SDDPC could use for the next five years," said Becky Doi, AT&T sales vice president. "Our ability to create a network that gives SDDPC the added bandwidth it needs to grow, combined with the extensive fiber footprint that AT&T has built in San Diego, was absolutely critical to our agreement."

Introduced in September, AT&T Ethernet Switched Service Metropolitan Area Network is designed to perform as a virtual private network, enabling high-bandwidth (up to one gigabit) any-to-any Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity between customer locations in 67 metro markets in the United States, including San Diego. The service features flexibility to grow with speeds of up to one gigabit, access to other AT&T services, the reliability of the AT&T network, and industry-leading service level agreements for service installation, availability and restoration.

SDDPC will benefit from the simplicity of having a single vendor providing end-to-end service with flexibility in speeds, transport options, bandwidth upgrades and around-the-clock proactive monitoring of its network -- all at the highest levels of reliability.

AT&T's newest Ethernet service is an integral part of AT&T's commitment to delivering integrated, end-to-end network management and integration solutions -- the cornerstone of the company's business strategy -- that address customers' evolving and increasingly sophisticated requirements.
