BelAir Networks Enlists Cable Industry Leaders For Wireless Mesh Technical Advisory Board
Posted on: Tuesday, 10 January 2006, 09:00 CST
Wireless mesh industry leader, BelAir Networks, today announced the establishment of a wireless mesh and cable Technical Advisory Board comprised of cable industry executives. Wireless mesh technology will have a significant role to play in the success of cable operators' businesses going forward. The Board will help accelerate the development of wireless mesh solutions optimized to address the opportunities and overcome the challenges that cable operators face as they expand their networks and service offerings to include wireless.
The inaugural meeting of the Technical Advisory Board will take place at this week's SCTE Conference on Emerging Technologies in Tampa, Florida.
"With a broadband network in place, and strong uptake of voice over IP services, cable operators are well-positioned to capitalize on wireless mesh technologies for mobile voice, video and data," stated Bernard Herscovich, president and CEO, BelAir Networks. "In creating the Technical Advisory Board, BelAir aims to generate a better understanding of how wireless mesh technologies can be successfully integrated into cable operators' existing businesses offerings. We are honored to have experts from the cable industry join this in this effort. Phil Belanger will chair the group and our technical team will participate as required."
"Cable industry interest in wireless mesh solutions is increasing dramatically. While BelAir is currently shipping cable-optimized versions of its wireless mesh products, we wanted to take the next step and chart the integrated wireless and cable network - adding mobile services to the cable operators' network," said Phil Belanger, vice president of marketing, BelAir Networks and founding chairman of the Wi-Fi Alliance. "We look forward to working with the Board to support the technical and business information needs of the cable industry as member companies leverage wireless mesh to deliver the 'Quad Play' - voice, video, data and mobility into their networks."
