Aviation Week & Space Technology Announces A New Program and Location for Its April 7 Laureates Awards

Posted on: Tuesday, 10 January 2006, 12:00 CST

NEW YORK, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Aviation Week & Space Technology today announced its 49th annual Laureates Awards will be held April 7, 2006 at The National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, VA.

The Laurels were conceived 49 years ago to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of individuals and teams in aviation, aerospace and defense. Today this black tie dinner and awards ceremony is the industry's premier event, attracting scores of industry pioneers and thought leaders from around the world.

For the first time, Laureates will be announced "live" at the event, where AW&ST editors will honor people who epitomize the values and visions of the global aerospace industry in the following categories:

* Commercial Air Transport * Aeronautics/Propulsion * Space * Operations * Military * IT/Electronics * General/Business Aviation

In addition, one special individual will be presented with the Phillip Klass Award for Lifetime Achievement. Mr. Klass, an AW&ST senior editor for more than 30 years, passed away in 2005 and was known worldwide for his expertise in commercial and military avionics, particularly electronic warfare.

"We're extremely excited about this year's Laureates Awards," said Aviation Week Editor-in-Chief Anthony L. Velocci, Jr. "We are creating a sense of drama by not announcing the winners until the night of the event, and the spectacular Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, with hundreds of historical aircraft and aviation artifacts, provides the ideal setting in which to honor the best and brightest in the industry."
