Ixia Significantly Extends Industry-Leading IxANVL Conformance Testing Solution

Ixia (Nasdaq:XXIA), a leading, global provider of IP performance testing solutions, announced today a number of enhancements to its industry-leading IxANVL(TM) conformance and interoperability test solution. IxANVL now supports test execution and automation from Microsoft Windows platforms, dramatically expanding user access to the testing tool. Additional protocols have been added to the comprehensive IxANVL portfolio, including the Metro Ethernet MEF9 test plan, MPLS VPN protocols, and SIP for Voice over IP.

With full support added for Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000 Professional consoles, the new IxANVL 7.00 release increases flexibility, allowing users to choose either a Linux or Windows platform to match their unique test environments. With this release, users can easily integrate IxANVL conformance testing with the wide range of Ixia performance test applications. IxANVL tests can also be driven directly over network interfaces available on the purpose-built Ixia hardware test platform via a Virtual Network Interface Card (VNIC) agent. This capability enhances IxANVL's flexibility for executing conformance tests over interfaces not commonly available on commercial workstations, such as Packet over SONET/SDH and ATM.

IxANVL's enhanced support for VoIP includes a new SIP conformance test suite that is focused on meeting the market's demands in verifying interoperability and standards compliance of voice signalling protocols. Such conformance validation is critical to the goal of efficient bandwidth utilization within the converged data and voice over IP network.

IxANVL has significantly expanded its support for MPLS VPN and Triple Play application protocols. MPLS VPN protocols - including Layer 3 MPLS VPNs, Layer 2 MPLS VPNs (Martini), and VPLS - are used by Service Providers to offer seamless private network connections to their customers. The addition of IGMPv3, MLDv2, and DHCPv4 support also extends IxANVL's coverage of key protocols commonly deployed by Service Providers at the customer edge of their networks to control access and configuration of video and data services.

The IxANVL 6.90 release (October 2005) added full support for the Metro Ethernet Forum's MEF9 conformance test suite, which is designed to meet the conformance test methodology defined by MEF1 and MEF9. In particular, the MEF9 test suite is important for Metro Ethernet Equipment Vendors, Service Providers, and Carriers to ensure interoperability of their Metro Ethernet deployments. The Metro Ethernet Forum has created a product certification program that implements the MEF9 methodologies in an effort to speed the adoption of Carrier Class Ethernet services. Ixia's IxANVL can play a key role in this certification process.
