Boat Show Display on Waterway

Jan. 12–Boating enthusiasts can shop for their dream boat while it floats on the Intracoastal Waterway during this year’s 22nd annual Budweiser Grand Strand Boat Show.
“This is two firsts for the city. It’s the first marina within the city limits, and it’s the first time the boat show has been able to expand and put boats in their natural habit, the water,” said Pat Dowling, spokesman for Burroughs & Chapin Co. Inc., which developed the Grande Dunes marina.
Also Saturday, the Saltwater Sportsman National Seminar Series will make its first stop in Myrtle Beach at The Palace Theatre.
That seminar runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and tickets are $55.
The boat show will have 32 boats in the water, ranging from 22 feet to 67 feet, said Elizabeth Cooper of Cooper Communications, the boat show promoter.
“You’ll be able to go on board many of the boats,” Dowling said.
“It will probably grow to be a pretty popular segment of the event.”
The show starts Friday and runs through Sunday with more than 75 dealers from North Carolina and South Carolina.
Cooper said hundreds of boats are sold at the show each year. One dealer last year sold 30.
Shuttles will run between the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, the traditional site for the show, and the Grande Dunes Marina.
Tickets cost $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for children, and provide entry into both events.
Two boats are up for grabs this year. The show is giving away a johnboat with motor and trailer, and attendees can sign up for a chance to win a $40,000 boat, Cooper said.
Other events include a kid’s fair, a fish-cooking class and several fishing seminars.
