Jan. 17--A routine traffic stop in Bemidji resulted in two arrests and the seizure of illegal drugs worth $130,000, including one of the largest seizures of crack cocaine in the history of northern Minnesota, according to a news release.
Larry Eugene Burrell, 29, of St. Paul, was pulled over by authorities at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fifth Street and Bemidji Avenue. During an investigation, authorities found Burrell had outstanding traffic violations and found "a small amount" of narcotics on his person.
Burrell was charged with first degree possession with intent to distribute. A search warrant led to the discovery of more than a thousand grams of crack cocaine, more than 200 grams of cocaine HCL and more than 1,300 grams of marijuana. Also confiscated was more than $20,000 in cash and a handgun, authorities said.
The news release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office was unclear about where the search occurred, and no one at the sheriff's office Monday could provide any more information. A news conference was scheduled for 2 p.m. today, according to the sheriff's office.
Tamika Lalonaie Brown, 23, of Bemidji, was arrested at the scene of the search warrant, taken into custody and charged with first degree possession of a controlled substance and gross misdemeanor child endangerment, according to the news release.
Burrell and Brown were being held in the Beltrami County Jail.
