The Coalition for Luggage Security Applauds English Airline Discounting Tickets for Passengers Traveling Without Luggage

Posted on: Tuesday, 17 January 2006, 15:00 CST

The Coalition for Luggage Security, today addressed passenger and luggage costs in what has always been inequitable - the same fares for different usage (http://news.cheapflights.co.uk/flights/2005/12/flybe_unveils_f.html).

"Our Coalition applauds Flybe Air in the United Kingdom for discounting fares to travelers without luggage and calls upon responsible airport, airline and security executives to respond accordingly in the United States," said Harvey Abelson, Coalition Director.

"By levying a fee for luggage we begin the acceptance that luggage is cargo. Those without luggage should pay less than those utilizing weight, space, time and causing delays. Baggage handling expenses cost airlines billions of dollars without adequate compensation," said Richard A. Altomare, Founder and Chairman of the Coalition for Luggage Security, and CEO of Universal Express, Inc. (OTCBB: USXP).

"By logistically knowing in advance the volume of baggage to be carried, the proper amount of resources and manpower can be prepared or reallocated by airlines," said Mr. Altomare.

"By reducing turnaround time and costs of airplanes, Flybe expects to be able to further reduce ticket prices. The economic advantages to the airline industry and the passengers has been the position of our Coalition since its inception (http://www.usxp.com/securitywp.pdf)," continued Mr. Altomare.

"By separating passengers voluntarily from their luggage, airlines will become more profitable, passengers will pay less for their tickets, less fuel will be utilized and loading and unloading luggage onto planes will no longer waste hours a day. Most importantly this will lessen the likelihood of suitcase bombs, airport line delays and increased security costs. Nothing for 'free' is ever valued. We commend Flybe's small step in the right direction of addressing the fact that 'free' is just another way for taxpayer unpaid loans and governmental bailouts of airline bankruptcies," concluded Richard Altomare.
