NEC to Launch New Electronic Medical Record System

Tokyo, Jan. 17 (Jiji Press)–NEC Corp. said Tuesday it will start selling an electronic medical record system in June that allows hospitals to securely exchange online the medical records of their patients.

NEC aims to sell 250 units of the system in three years, the company said. For a hospital with around 300 beds, installation of the system will cost some 240 million yen.

With the launch of the new system, NEC intends to raise its sales of hospital-related products to 100 billion yen from the current 80 billion yen within two years, said Toshimitau Iwanami, a senior NEC official.

Together with CSI Co., a Sapporo-based developer of computer systems with which NEC has a tie-up deal in the field of hospital- related products, NEC is aiming to capture 40 pct of the domestic market in three to four years, outpacing industry leader Fujitsu Ltd. , Iwanami said.

NEC and CSI currently hold 24 pct of the domestic market for hospital-related products.END
