SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ --
WHO THIS IS FOR: * Reporters covering the San Francisco Area, Technology, Browsers, Open Source, the Internet, Search, Consumer Technology Products and Future Technology WHEN/WHERE: * Effective at http://www.browster.com/ on January 18th, 2006 PROGRAM GOALS: * Browster's Open Design Program is striving to create the "people's browsing tool" and rewarding users for their great ideas. The program has been designed to create an indispensable tool for faster and easier browsing. * To include the community in our ongoing feature design process in a collaborative, open environment. To let individual users have a direct impact on the product. * Browster will show progress by including winning feature ideas into monthly product releases. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS: * Open Design is a new, community based way for anyone, regardless of technical skills, to help shape Browster and the future of browsing. * Open Design is similar to Open Source, but for feature ideas, not source coding. * Browster is involving its users in the product creation process -- at the feature concept stage. * With Browster's Open Design, the process is now publicly debated and visible on our forums and surveys. Browster will release versions of the product monthly incorporating features voted the best by the community together with final selection by our product team. * This is an ongoing program through 2006, not a one-time contest. PROGRAM PRIZES: The Browster Open Design Program prizes include: * $5,000 cash to one person for the top selected feature that person was the first to place on our feature idea forum; * $2,500 cash to two people for the second and third selected features; * An iPod for each of the next 5 top voted features; * Browster t-shirts. HOW TO PARTICIPATE: * Download Browster at http://www.browster.com/. Browster automatically plugs into IE and Firefox. * Use Browster then submit ideas into the forum. Think about your browsing day -- what sites do you visit, what links do you click often, what's tedious, repetitive or annoying? Think about what features and product ideas you'd love to have added to the product and enter them at http://www.browster.com/open.htm. * Vote. Read others' ideas in the forum and place your votes for the top three. It's OK to vote for your own ideas. One vote per user, per idea please. When you vote you are asked for your unique Browster ID number. Get your unique ID by rolling your mouse over the Browster logo in the Browster window when you view a web page in Browster. * Win. We will alert you if you have won by sending a monthly email to participants -- watch carefully, you would not want to miss $5,000 or a free iPod in the mail. UPCOMING PROGRAM EVENTS: * The Open Design Valentine Contest will be announced at the beginning of February. * The Browster Open Design Day will be announced mid-February.
