Hitachi, HP to Study Key Network Security Technology

Tokyo, Jan. 18 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s Hitachi Ltd. and U.S. computer giant Hewlett-Packard Co. said Wednesday they have agreed to launch a joint project to study information technology security issues.

The two companies will focus primarily on improving network security and guaranteeing the authenticity of document content, they said.

Specifically, they will develop a fundamental security technology that allows remote access to a company’s intranet only upon confirmation of safety of computers to be used and identification of their users.

For content security, Hitachi and HP will study ways to simultaneously authenticate documents and ensure their confidentiality.

The two firms aim to achieve low-cost, high-grade technology for information protection by using Hitachi’s authentication technologies and HP’s security solutions, company officials said.

Hitachi and HP plan to develop their own products based on the results of the joint research project, which will be undertaken by HP laboratories in Britain and the United States and Hitachi’s systems development unit in Japan.END
