Sun Microsystems Earns Top Rankings in Diogenes Labs-Storage Magazine Quality Awards

Posted on: Thursday, 19 January 2006, 12:00 CST

LOUISVILLE, Colo., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sun Microsystems today announced that its StorageTek(TM) SL-Series tape libraries achieved the number one overall ranking via the Diogenes Labs-Storage Magazine Quality Award program in the enterprise-class library category. Sun's StorageTek L-Series tape libraries secured the number two overall ranking in the midrange library category as part of this award program, featured in the January 2006 issue of Storage magazine.

The Diogenes Labs-Storage Magazine Quality Awards are designed to quantify real world experience factors by surveying IT professionals directly. For the tape library award program, 554 product evaluations from 383 respondents were assessed across five main categories: sales competence, product features, initial quality, reliability and technical support.

Among the findings from this survey, respondents ranked Sun's StorageTek SL-Series and its L-Series tape libraries number one in their respective categories in terms of the value these products deliver for the money. Sun's StorageTek SL-Series libraries were also ranked number one by survey respondents for reliability, technical support, and ease of backup/recovery management in the enterprise-class library category. Perhaps most notably, besting all other product entries in the enterprise-class library category, 88.1% of Sun StorageTek SL-Series users said they'd buy the product again.

StorageTek automated tape libraries from Sun Microsystems continue to set the standard for enterprise-class performance and reliability, leading the tape storage automation market with the fastest, highest-quality, most space-efficient technology available today. These advanced tape libraries help customers better manage and protect data with highly productive, consolidated storage and archiving. In November 2005, Sun Microsystems' StorageTek D-series and FlexLine(TM) FLA 200/300 series earned top honors in the midrange disk array category of the Diogenes Labs-Storage Magazine Quality Award program, achieving the number one ranking across all five survey categories. According to Storage Magazine, "Looking at the results from our various Quality Awards -- StorageTek's ranking in this tape library survey, StorageTek's win among midrange disk arrays and Sun's strong second-place showing among enterprise-class storage arrays -- one would have to conclude that the Sun/StorageTek combination bodes well for storage users." (Storage magazine, January 2006 issue, Volume 4, Number 11).
