SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sunrise Telecom Incorporated , a leading provider of service verification equipment for telecommunications and cable TV networks, today announced the addition of electrical interfaces to the industry's smallest 10 Gbps SDH/SONET test set. The SunSet 10G, designed for the installation and maintenance of high-speed optical networks, addresses the growing deployment of DWDM and other high-speed optical transmission systems in global core and metropolitan networks.
With support for twelve different electrical and optical rates from 1.5/2 Mbps through 10 Gbps, the SunSet 10G covers all test interfaces for core and metro SDH/SONET rings and their tributaries. Weighing approximately 2.2 kg (5 pounds), the SunSet 10G is the lightest and smallest 10 Gbps test set on the market today. Nearest competitors, weighing at least twice as much, are less convenient to carry between testing sites in the field.
Even with its small size and low cost, the SunSet 10G rivals competitors with its comprehensive suite of advanced optical network tests. It features the highest receiver sensitivity for 10 Gbps on the market, allowing it to accurately analyze low-level 10 Gbps signals from optical monitoring points. It supports a through mode at all rates for in-service monitoring when an optical splitter is not available. Test setup time is greatly reduced when, at the touch of a button, the SunSet 10G automatically identifies the signal and sets its configuration accordingly. The unit provides basic transmission verification as well as sophisticated SDH/SONET diagnostics through overhead byte analysis. Other features include optical power measurement, ITU-T error performance analysis, APS (Automatic Protection Switch) testing, and pointer monitoring and adjustment.
The SunSet 10G will be exhibited at ITU Telecom World 2003 (Oct 12-18) in Geneva, Switzerland at the Sunrise Telecom booth in the USA Pavilion #229.
