Transcontinental Standardizes on MassTransit for Digital File Delivery

Posted on: Monday, 23 January 2006, 09:00 CST

Group Logic, developer of best-selling network workflow software products, today announced that Transcontinental Inc., one of the largest printers in North America, is standardizing on MassTransit to support digital file transfers across all of the company's 60 printing plants. MassTransit is enabling Transcontinental to improve its manufacturing platform and will play a key role in the company's Evolution 2010 business project, one of whose initiatives is to expand and enhance value-added services.

"MassTransit provides Transcontinental with secure, enterprise-class file transfer capabilities, allowing our business units and printing plants to easily share files and quickly respond to last-minute customer requests," said Nicky Milner, vice president, Premedia Group for Transcontinental Inc. "This flexibility enables our business-unit leaders to better manage and anticipate our customers' needs and help them effectively establish and build loyal client bases."

Transcontinental is integrating MassTransit into its pre-existing Premedia workflows to automate file transfers and streamline processes, resulting in increased operating efficiencies for its production facilities. By automating delivery directly to plant sites, the plants are no longer required to wait to download files through FTP. This improved efficiency and flexibility enables Transcontinental to quickly respond to customer requests and improve overall customer service.

MassTransit is the only enterprise software solution proven to transform digital file transfers into strategic business processes, providing users with the flexibility to transfer their high-volume, mission-critical digital files. With MassTransit, Transcontinental can now support its customers' high volume of file transfers, from regular Web file transfers to automatically transferring files back and forth to clients within a workflow, to running remote proofing devices at customer sites.

Under its Horizon 2005 business project, Transcontinental launched The Digital Workshop toolset and MassTransit was used as the key application for improving Transcontinental's file transfer infrastructure and Premedia production workflows for this launch.

"Moving forward, Value-Added Services continue to be a primary development area for Transcontinental, and we expect to see Group Logic as a key vendor partner in assisting us in that area," stated Milner. "We will continue our expansion and deployment of MassTransit as we develop other integration projects, in order to blend the Digital Workshop offering into a comprehensive suite of tools and services designed to make it easier for our clients to do business with us."

Since MassTransit manages all aspects of the file transfer process, it ensures accountability and visibility throughout the process, alerting Transcontinental in real time if it experiences any transfer issues. With MassTransit's e-mail notifications, each of Transcontinental's 60 printing plants knows exactly when a file is transferred or a transmission error occurs, eliminating uncertainty and removing roadblocks that previously might have resulted in production delays.
