Sybase PowerDesigner Leads Market Share In Data Modeling Market

Posted on: Thursday, 30 October 2003, 06:00 CST

DUBLIN, Calif., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sybase, Inc. , a leading enterprise infrastructure and integration company, today announced that Gartner Dataquest has recognized Sybase PowerDesigner as the market share leader in database modeling with higher product license revenues than top competitors. Sybase PowerDesigner, an all-in-one modeling and design solution for enterprises that need to build or re-engineer business applications quickly, cost-effectively and consistently, increased its share of the market to 39 percent in 2002, reaching the top position in license revenue.

"Businesses now expect modeling tools to not only deliver robust functionality, but also to ensure that applications can be built rapidly and affordably," according to a recent report. "Development projects today typically span multiple platform and code types. To deliver value in these complex environments, successful modeling tools should support traditional and emerging modeling techniques to help cut the time and complexity out of development projects."

The company's PowerDesigner enterprise modeling solution empowers designers, architects, database administrators and developers to collaborate and effectively model databases and applications for a wide range of platforms. These platforms include Sybase Adaptive Server(R) Enterprise, the company's enterprise-class relational database management system; Sybase Adaptive Server(R) Anywhere, the company's transaction-based SQL database designed for personal and workgroup use; and Sybase IQ, the company's highly scalable analytical engine; as well as, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle 9i and many others such as J2EE, .NET and Web services application frameworks.

"We are proud to be recognized as the clear market leader in the database modeling segment," said Dimitri Volkmann, worldwide product line director, Sybase. "With more than 12 years in the market, PowerDesigner holds a very strong position, which demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers unconditional, open support of all the leading platforms -- database engines, as well as application frameworks -- in their latest editions."
